Home & Community Assistance in Indiana

Family First Attendant Care provides authorized Home & Community Assistance across Indiana. This non-skilled service may help eligible waiver participants with household routines and community living when those activities are included in the approved service plan.

Home & Community Assistance, also described as Homemaker Services, may help an eligible participant maintain their home and take part in community life through activities authorized in the service plan.

Important: Actual covered activities depend on the applicable waiver, current Indiana rules, and the participant-centered service plan. FFAC does not determine eligibility or authorized hours.

Support for community living

Depending on the current waiver definition and approved plan, assistance may relate to authorized household routines or community activities. This is not skilled nursing or medical treatment. FFAC verifies the applicable service definition before services begin and does not present unverified tasks as covered.

How it differs from Attendant Care

Attendant Care generally centers more directly on personal routines and activities of daily living. Home & Community Assistance generally supports household and community functioning. Boundaries vary by waiver and plan, so the case manager or service coordinator should confirm the authorized scope.

Existing and family caregivers

An existing caregiver or family member may apply when permitted by the waiver, service plan, relationship rules, and Medicaid requirements. Hiring is not guaranteed and requires screening, orientation, training, and employment approval.

Starting or switching

FFAC will confirm the waiver, health plan or network, county, requested service, authorization, and caregiver plan before proposing a start date. Do not terminate current services before a replacement plan is confirmed.
